Ghana to host inaugural National Youth Festival in August
The National Youth Authority (NYA) will host the country’s first-ever National Youth Festival this August, coinciding with the celebration of International Youth Day on August 12, announced the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Osman Ayariga Esq.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Ayariga stated that the landmark event aims to address the most critical challenges confronting Ghana’s youth, focusing on mental health, substance abuse, unemployment, and other socio-economic barriers impeding youth development.
“It is not just about training and jobs, but also about the mental and emotional well-being of our youth,” Mr. Ayariga emphasized.
The Ghana Youth Festival will feature a week-long series of conferences, forums, national campaigns, and community-driven events designed to educate, empower, and engage young people across all regions.
Central to the event will be discussions on mental health, an issue Mr. Ayariga described as “a critical foundation” for youth development and national growth.
“If the mental health of our youth is not stable, then providing jobs and training alone will not yield the desired results,” he noted.
In addition to mental health, the festival will include a national street campaign against substance abuse, a growing concern among Ghanaian youth. Other key focus areas will include digital literacy, youth entrepreneurship, leadership development, and civic responsibility.
The festival will also provide space for entertainment and recreation, offering a well-rounded experience that celebrates Ghanaian youth through music, culture, and sporting activities—intended to inspire resilience, unity, and purpose among the younger generation.
“This is the first time in our history that the NYA is organizing something of this magnitude for the youth,” Mr. Ayariga added.
Following the festival, the NYA will launch a Youth Fellowship Programme in October 2025, offering young Ghanaians opportunities to network, build leadership skills, and engage in national development discussions.
