The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has suspended its nationwide strike. The decision brings an end to nearly two weeks of industrial action that disrupted healthcare services across the country.

Announcing the decision, GRNMA President Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo said the move follows intensive negotiations with government officials and appeals from various stakeholders for a peaceful resolution.

“The engagement held with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and other interested parties on Thursday, June 12, 2025, was very fruitful and has paved the way for an amicable resolution of the impasse with our employer concerning the implementation of our collective bargaining agreement,” she noted.

She added that the industrial action, which began on June 2, 2025, is suspended pending the outcome of a follow-up meeting scheduled for June 26.

Mrs. Ofori-Ampofo directed the over 120,000 nurses and midwives across the country to resume work on Saturday, June 14. She also assured members that the association remains committed to seeing the full implementation of their collective agreement.

“As trained and professional nurses and midwives, our concerns must be treated with urgency and good faith. We do not take delight in seeing our patients suffer; however, we cannot care for others when the system fails to care for us,” the GRNMA President noted.

She emphasized that the GRNMA is a nonpartisan professional association and trade union, holding the official bargaining certificate for all nurses and midwives in Ghana.

The Nurses have since resumed work across the nations’s hospitals.
