FESTAC Africa Renaissance Festival 2025 to take place Sept. 21–27 in Accra

Accra has officially been announced as the host city for the FESTAC Africa Renaissance Festival 2025.
The launch ceremony, held at the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Head Office, brought together media representatives, creative arts stakeholders, and traditional authorities in a spirited event marking the countdown to what is poised to be a transformative Pan-African celebration.
Scheduled to run from September 21 to 27, 2025, the festival aims to position Accra at the heart of a continental cultural renaissance, grounded in the principles of Pan-Africanism, cultural identity, sustainable development, and economic empowerment.
Speaking at the launch, Engr. Yinka Abioye, Chairman of FESTAC Africa, described the upcoming festival as a symbol of continental awakening.
“FESTAC Africa 2025 is not just an event, it is the heartbeat of a rising continent. Ghana stands ready, not only to host, but to unite Africa in spirit, purpose, and pride. From the land of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a new Africa shall rise. Ghana is the echo that will unite the continent.”
The significance of Accra’s selection is deeply symbolic. The festival opens on September 21, the birth anniversary of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president and a revered Pan-Africanist. The closing date, September 27, coincides with World Tourism Day, underscoring the power of culture and tourism as levers for economic growth.
Under the theme ‘Harnessing Health, Culture, Trade, Climate Change, Gender Equity, and Tourism for Sustainable Economic Growth,’ FESTAC Africa 2025 will integrate cultural celebrations with critical dialogues on health, environmental responsibility, trade, and social inclusion. Organizers aim to use this platform to shape a bold, unified African future.
Highlighting the impact on tourism, Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, noted:“GTA is honored to champion FESTAC Africa 2025. It will serve as a cultural and economic catalyst, advancing our tourism agenda and showcasing Ghana’s leadership as the cultural heartbeat of the continent.”
The festival will include guided tours to Ghana’s iconic heritage sites and tourist destinations, further boosting the country’s profile as a top cultural and tourism destination.
The organizers are calling on the health sector across Africa to offer free health screenings and wellness services during the festival. Hospitals, clinics, pharmaceutical companies, traditional healers, and wellness institutions have been urged to participate actively.
“This is more than service—it is leadership through compassion. Let us lead by example and give back to the people of Ghana by ensuring access to essential health services during this historic celebration,” the organizers stated.
FESTAC Africa 2025 builds on the legacy of the original FESTAC ’77, held in Lagos, Nigeria, reimagined for a new generation. The festival seeks to reclaim and celebrate African identity, honor ancestral wisdom, and promote economic empowerment through the arts and culture. “FESTAC Africa is more than a festival, it is a Pan-African movement of cultural reclamation,” the Chairman of FESTAC Africa added.
