Access bank Ghana’s SME empowerment wins International Finance Award

Access Bank Ghana PLC has received recognition at the 2025 International Finance Awards, winning the title of ‘Most Innovative SME Empowerment Initiative (Banking) – Ghana.’

The award, announced by International Finance Magazine, acknowledges the bank’s efforts in designing programs and financial solutions aimed at strengthening Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) across the country. The award also reflects the growing relevance of inclusive banking practices that prioritize long-term national development through support for smaller businesses.

According to the organizers, the International Finance Awards recognize institutions that have demonstrated excellence in innovation, infrastructure development, and commitment to customer service and economic progress.

Access Bank Ghana’s recognition was largely attributed to a number of strategic partnerships rolled out over the past year. These include a collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to expand financing for small businesses, especially those owned by women, and a partnership with Birmingham City University to promote green financing and responsible lending practices.

More recently, the bank entered into an agreement with global logistics provider DHL aimed at improving trade and export opportunities for SMEs, in line with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The bank has also been running SME Clinics and capacity-building workshops in various parts of the country, including Kumasi, Tamale, and Accra. These sessions have focused on key areas such as export readiness, digital transformation, and cash flow management.

Beyond training, Access Bank has also introduced digital tools and tailored banking products to support entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Access Bank Ghana is part of the Access Bank Group, a pan-African financial institution operating in over 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, UAE, and Hong Kong. In Ghana, the bank operates as a public limited company with a focus on retail, corporate, and SME banking.
