Africa’s mining future demands unity – AMSG Secretary-General

The Secretary-General of the Africa Mining Strategy Group, H.E. Moses Engadu, has declared collaboration the cornerstone of Africa’s mining future. In his keynote address at the prestigious Mining in Motion Summit in Accra, he emphasized that unity and cooperation are essential for the sector’s sustainable growth.
“Africa’s complex geopolitical landscape demands a collective approach to mining development. The future of African mining depends on collaboration. By uniting, countries can share knowledge, resources, and expertise to drive prosperity,” he asserted.
H.E. Engadu’s address highlighted the urgent need for African nations to transcend differences and pursue shared objectives. He argued that pooled resources and expertise could overcome historical barriers to sectoral progress.
Under his leadership, the Africa Mining Strategy Group champions regional cooperation and strategic planning to transform mining into an engine for economic development. This vision comes as Africa’s vast mineral wealth – including gold, diamonds, oil, and gas – remains underutilized due to infrastructure gaps, opaque governance, and inconsistent regulations.
The summit convened industry stakeholders to address these challenges. H.E. Engadu’s remarks framed the discussions, stressing that only through unity can Africa:
- Establish sustainable mining practices
- Strengthen transparency and accountability
- Maximize returns from mineral resources
