Zoomlion teams up with Zanzibar to revolutionize waste management
Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), has entered into a strategic partnership with the Government of Zanzibar aimed at overhauling waste management systems and advancing environmental sustainability.
The initiative follows a high-level meeting between Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of JGC, and the President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi. The meeting signals a significant milestone in Zoomlion’s Africa expansion agenda, which seeks to deliver cutting-edge, sustainable sanitation solutions to countries across the continent.
“We had a very fruitful meeting with His Excellency President Mwinyi, where we discussed transformative approaches to waste management that are both practical and forward-looking,” Dr. Agyepong stated.
As part of the agreement, Zoomlion will work closely with Zanzibar authorities to introduce a comprehensive waste management framework that includes advanced waste sorting and recycling technologies, engineered landfill systems, and grassroots collection models designed to create jobs and boost local economies.
Dr. Agyepong emphasized that the collaboration aligns with Zoomlion’s vision of using waste as a catalyst for innovation, employment, and sustainable development. “At Zoomlion, we believe that waste is not just a challenge, it is an opportunity, Our mission is to support African governments in building cleaner, greener, and more resilient communities,” he noted.
President Mwinyi expressed keen interest in Zoomlion’s track record in Ghana and other African nations, noting that the expertise is timely and critical to Zanzibar’s environmental and tourism development goals.
The partnership also includes commitments from Zoomlion to provide technical support, make targeted investments, and initiate capacity-building programs to ensure the success of the transformation.
“This collaboration is not just about waste management. It’s about building sustainable cities and protecting the environment for future generations,” Dr. Agyepong added.
