Thailand’s Chuangsri crowned Miss World 2025

Suchata ‘Opal’ Chuangsri from Phuket has been crowned Miss World 2025, becoming the first Thai woman to win the prestigious title. The 72nd edition of the global beauty pageant concluded on Saturday, May 31, at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad, India, featuring 108 contestants from around the world.

Chuangsri received the crown from outgoing titleholder Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic. Hasset Dereje Admassu of Ethiopia was named first runner-up, followed by Maja Klajda of Poland in third place and Aurélie Joachim of Martinique in fourth.

Suchata Chuangsri’s journey to the Miss World crown is marked by resilience and a commitment to advocacy. At 16, she underwent surgery to remove a 10-centimeter breast tumor, an experience that inspired her to launch “OpalForHer,” a breast cancer awareness campaign. Her dedication to this cause played a significant role in her success at the pageant.

An alumna of Thammasat University, Chuangsri holds a degree in Political Science with a focus on International Relations. Fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese, she previously placed third runner-up at Miss Universe 2024, showcasing her versatility and commitment to global representation.

The Miss World 2025 pageant was a month-long celebration of beauty, talent, and culture, held from May 7 to May 31 in Hyderabad, Telangana. The event featured a series of activities, including a grand opening ceremony at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on May 10, showcasing traditional Telangana folk and tribal dances. Contestants also toured historic sites such as Charminar, Chowmahalla Palace, and Ramappa Temple, immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the region.

The pageant was co-hosted by Miss World 2016 Stephanie del Valle and Indian presenter Sachiin Kumbhar, with performances by Bollywood actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Ishaan Khatter adding to the glamour of the event. Despite the celebratory atmosphere, the pageant faced controversy when British contestant Milla Magee withdrew, alleging exploitation by the organizers. Magee claimed that contestants were used to entertain wealthy sponsors and described the experience as degrading. In response, Miss World organizer Julia Morley released videos showing Magee participating in pre-event activities and stated that Magee had cited a family emergency for her departure. The organization labeled Magee’s claims as unfounded and inconsistent with her documented experience.
