Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare poised ahead of Unity Cup in London
Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has expressed delight after making the Black Stars squad for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper has been included in the team for the four-nation friendly competition, following his impressive performances in previous outings with the national team.
Asare, who kept clean sheets in the World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, has been confirmed as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars and is expected to start in the opening match against Nigeria on May 28, 2025.
“I’m grateful to God, our supporters, and all Ghanaians for their support. It is not easy for a local player to get an invite to the Black Stars. Every match is a tough one for us, so we are always ready when we get a call-up,” he told Max TV.
“We have to psyche ourselves and prepare well because anything can happen at any time. Since we’ve received a call-up, we must be ready to represent and make Ghanaians proud,” he added. Asare and his colleagues from the Ghana Premier League who were named in the squad departed the country in the early hours of Saturday morning for London to participate in the tournament.
