Ghana’s Kenyan community marks day of togetherness

The Kenyans in Ghana Association (KGA) brought together over 120 members of the Kenyan diaspora for its annual Family Fun Day, held on Saturday, May 10, at the Athletic Oval Field of the University of Ghana.

The 2025 edition of the event, now a major fixture on the KGA calendar, offered a vibrant mix of celebration, cultural pride, and community bonding. Families and individuals from across the country gathered for an afternoon of games, music, and Kenyan cuisine, all set in a lively, injury-free environment.

Participants, dressed in colorful team T-shirts, engaged in a variety of fun activities aimed at strengthening connections among Kenyans living in Ghana. Children roamed freely across the open lawns, while adults joined in friendly competitions, creating a spirited and joyful atmosphere.

Acting High Commissioner of the Kenya High Commission in Ghana, Mr. Kottut, attended the event as Guest of Honor. He praised the association for fostering unity and upholding cultural values within the Kenyan diaspora.

“This event truly captured the warmth, resilience, and unity of Kenyans living abroad. It was wonderful to see our community in Ghana reconnect through fun and laughter. At the High Commission, we are proud to support initiatives that bring our diaspora together,” he said.

KGA Chairperson, Ms. Emma Wenani, described the event as a great success.

“We are incredibly proud of how this year’s Family Fun Day turned out. It’s always heartwarming to see families come together and enjoy themselves. Events like this remind us of the importance of community and connection, even when we’re far from home,” she said. The Association extended its gratitude to all attendees, volunteers, and sponsors for their contributions and noted that it looks forward to hosting future events that continue to strengthen the Kenyan community in Ghana.
