Zanetor Rawlings appointed to Pan African Parliament

By: Samuella Antwi

The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has been appointed to serve on Ghana’s delegation to the Pan African Parliament (PAP), the legislative arm of the African Union (AU).

Her appointment forms part of Ghana’s contribution to the continental body, which brings together lawmakers from all AU member states to deliberate on governance, democracy, and legislative harmonization across Africa.

Each country is required to include at least one woman in its five-member delegation.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, who currently chairs the Committee on Security and Intelligence in Ghana’s Parliament, brings to PAP a wealth of experience in both national policymaking and international collaboration.

She also serves on several key parliamentary committees, including Defence and Interior; Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions; and the Petitions Committee.

Beyond her parliamentary duties, she is Chair of the Ghana–Algeria Friendship Association and Co-Chair of the Women Legislators in Defence (WLID) Network, an initiative that promotes female leadership in peace and security matters across Africa.

A medical doctor by profession, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings is also known for her work in humanitarian aid, climate and environmental advocacy, and conflict resolution, particularly in marginalized communities.

Her appointment is expected to strengthen Ghana’s voice in continental legislative matters and advance the country’s positions on security cooperation, gender equity, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

The Pan African Parliament, headquartered in Midrand, South Africa, was established in 2004 to give African citizens a stronger voice in the governance of the continent. While it currently holds consultative and advisory powers, ongoing reforms seek to transform it into a fully empowered legislative body.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings joins the delegation at a time when PAP is increasingly focused on legal frameworks that promote pan-African integration, transparency, and accountability among member states.
