Communication and media professional Naomi Darko has emphasized the growing importance of personal branding in today’s fast-paced and competitive world, stating that it is rooted in consistency and shaped by one’s actions over time.
According to Ms. Darko, personal branding is no longer a concept reserved for celebrities, public figures, or high-profile executives. Instead, it has become a powerful tool for professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, and even students who are keen to influence how they are perceived in their respective fields. She stressed that every interaction, decision, and public appearance contributes to the overall image a person builds for themselves.
“Personal branding is not a one-time effort. It is about being consistent with your values, your work ethic, and how you communicate who you are,” she said.
Speaking on the Business Breakfast on Zed FM, Ms. Darko urged individuals to be intentional about their presence in both physical and digital spaces. She highlighted the importance of self-awareness, authenticity, and visibility, especially in a time when employers, collaborators, and audiences often form impressions based on online profiles and social media content.
“Learn how to command the room with your brand,” she advised.
Ms. Darko added that developing a strong personal brand can open doors to career advancement, networking opportunities, and leadership roles. She encouraged people to align their actions with their professional goals and values, and to be mindful of the message they are consistently sending through their behavior and communication style.
Ms. Darko further explained that one effective way to build a strong personal brand within the workplace is by consistently contributing during meetings and discussions. According to her, speaking up not only signals confidence and competence but also positions individuals as engaged and proactive members of the team.
She emphasized that consistent communication, even in small group settings, can significantly boost visibility and reinforce one’s professional identity
In addition to vocal participation, Ms. Darko underscored the importance of collaboration and being a team player. She explained that individuals who support their colleagues, offer help, and celebrate shared successes are more likely to be seen as reliable and valuable assets.
“Personal branding is not just about individual achievement but also about how you uplift others and contribute to collective goals,” she said.
She encouraged workers at all levels to build a reputation based on consistency, collaboration, and a willingness to add value in every interaction, stressing that these qualities naturally build trust and enhance one’s professional brand over time. As the nature of work evolves and competition increases across sectors, personal branding is gaining traction as a strategic asset that helps individuals stand out, build trust, and make a lasting impression in their industries.
