Top Nations Line Up for Friendlies with Black Stars Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that several major football nations have expressed strong interest in playing the Black Stars in international friendlies ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He said the GFA has already received multiple proposals from both African and European teams seeking to test their squads against Ghana, noting that the Black Stars’ competitive pedigree continues to attract high-profile opponents.
“Teams have already expressed interest, some African teams and some European teams. Even before we accepted to play Japan and Korea, we had offers on the table,” Mr. Asante Twum said.
He added that immediately after Ghana secured qualification for the World Cup, countries started writing to us. And these are big countries. That is exactly what you need when you qualify for the World Cup. A lot of the discussions now are focused on how we prepare, especially considering the kind of opposition we may face in the group stage.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England and Croatia on June 23 and 27, respectively.
The 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, to be staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada, will be the biggest in history, featuring 48 teams for the first time.
