ECOWAS to Launch 50th Anniversary Celebrations in Ghana

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will launch its 50th anniversary celebrations on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in Accra, Ghana. Heads of State and Government are expected to lead the event, which promises to be a grand celebration of the organization’s five decades of promoting economic integration and collective self-sufficiency among its member states.
ECOWAS was founded on May 28, 1975, in Lagos, Nigeria, with the aim of fostering economic cooperation and development among West African countries. Over the years, the organization has grown to become a key pillar of the African Economic Community, promoting unified economic cooperation across sectors such as transport, energy, agriculture, and trade.
The launch event will feature Ministers and dignitaries from ECOWAS member states, as well as the unveiling of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee logo and theme. The event will also include artistic performances, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of West Africa. According to an official statement from the Commission, the launch will provide an opportunity to reflect on ECOWAS’s history and accomplishments over the past 50 years. The 50th anniversary celebrations will be a significant milestone for ECOWAS, marking five decades of regional integration and cooperation. The event will provide a platform for ECOWAS leaders to reflect on the organization’s achievements and challenges, as well as chart a new course for its future.
