Position Ghana to capitalise on 10% Tariff

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Simon Madjie, has urged Ghana to strategically position itself to take advantage of the 10% tariff imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Ghanaian exports.
His comments come amid growing concerns about the impact of the tariff on Ghana’s export sector and broader trade relations with the United States.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, April 4, 2025, Madjie emphasized the need for a proactive response to the tariff measures. “We have to look at the kind of tariffs on American products. Because a tariff is a way of raising revenue. Shutting the door may be far-fetched. The people in the U.S. who end up buying U.S.-imported products and use them—that will continue in some form,” he explained.
While acknowledging the policy as part of President Trump’s trade agenda, the GIPC CEO encouraged Ghanaian stakeholders to remain flexible and forward-looking.
“What he is trying to do is his policy. We can only look at this and position ourselves to go further and take advantage of the American market or explore other markets that may emerge,” he added
