Heavy rains and winds damage over 50 cars at A&C Mall

By Nana Afrane Asante

Several cars have been damaged during a heavy windstorm accompanied by rains at the A&C mall at East Legon in Accra on Tuesday March 25, 2025.

A carport reportedly caved in due to the strong winds and heavy rain, adding to the destruction.

An eyewitness named Joyce who also works as a waitress at the mall in an interview with ZED NEWS, recounted the incident as a horrifying one saying, she had only just attended to a customer seconds before the car park caved in.

“I had just finished talking to a customer and decided to go out and then I saw people running towards the car park so when I got there I saw that most of the cars were trapped under the port”.

“There was one particular car which had a passenger in it so I called the security and they came to help rescue him”, she added.

According to her, most shops had also suffered power outages as a result rains.
The intense rainfall also submerged roads, disrupted traffic, and caused billboards to collapse. Residents and commuters were left stranded as floodwaters made several roads impassable. Many have called for improved drainage systems to curb the recurring issue of flooding in the capital.
Authorities are yet to assess the full extent of the damage, but emergency response teams have been urged to act swiftly to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

The downpour also wreaked havoc in other parts of Accra, leading to severe flooding and infrastructure damage
