Tema Motorway Accident Marked My Spiritual Rebirth — Yaw Siki

By Esther Korantemaa Offei

Urban gospel artiste Yaw Siki has recounted how a near-fatal accident on the Tema Motorway became a defining turning point that led to his full commitment to Christianity.

Speaking in an interview on Highway 10.19 on ZED FM, the former hiplife musician described the experience as a “fresh start” that completely reshaped his life and purpose.

“The first thought that came to my mind was that it was time to turn things around. It was time to start again,” Yaw Siki said.

He recalled waking up disoriented and in severe pain after the accident, unable to remember how he had ended up in hospital.

“I didn’t know where I was. I didn’t know whether I was existing or not. I was coming from a place of total darkness,” he said.

Doctors later informed him that he had fractured a neck bone and required surgery to avoid paralysis. The gravity of the situation, he said, forced him into deep spiritual reflection.

“They told me anything could happen. I had to tune my mind for that. That was when I realised I needed God,” he stated.

Yaw Siki revealed that even before the accident, he had been battling a deep sense of emptiness despite his success in the secular music industry.

“I was successful in the secular world, but I was empty in my spirit. I could be around the boys, in hotels, drinks everywhere, but I couldn’t enjoy it. Something was missing,” he said.

According to him, the accident accelerated a spiritual process that had already begun months earlier.

“About six months before the accident, the Lord was already drawing me to Him, but I was stubborn. I had struggled to break through, and it wasn’t easy to leave everything behind,” he noted.

He said he eventually surrendered fully while preparing for surgery, deleting his unreleased album and committing his life to Christ. “I told the Lord that if He healed me, I would do whatever He wanted me to do,” he said.

Yaw Siki recounted a moment in hospital when he believes he received divine reassurance about his healing. “As I reached for my Bible, Psalm 103 verse three came clearly to the right side of my ear. It said, ‘Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.’ That was the first time I can say I heard something audibly concerning my healing,” he explained.

He said his recovery defied medical expectations. “Indeed, the Lord healed me beyond doctors’ understanding,” he said.

Following his healing, Yaw Siki said he experienced a vivid dream that further confirmed his new calling. “I saw the rapture. There was lightning, thunder and a voice shouting, ‘Christ is coming, witness.’ Then I saw myself preaching from house to house,” he recounted.

He said the experience left him with an overwhelming urge to share his faith.“When I woke up, there was a new fire in my spirit. I had the urge to move out and testify, and that is what I started doing,” he said.

Reflecting on his past, the gospel artiste said the loss of joy during his peak years was a clear sign that his life needed redirection. “Whenever I was alone, I felt empty. When I became silent and paid attention, I knew within me that I needed to serve the Lord, but it was difficult,” he admitted.

Yaw Siki concluded that the accident, though tragic, ultimately gave his life renewed meaning. “It was a fresh start for me,” he said.
