BeTechConnected Hosts Future of Work 2.0 Media Soiree, Setting the Stage for Transformative Event

BeTechConnected has successfully hosted the Future of Work 2.0 media soiree, an exclusive gathering aimed at providing knowledge, insights, and education on the upcoming Future of Work 2.0 event. Held at the ALX Hub, One Airport Square – Airport City which set the stage for discussions on bridging the gap between academia and industry.
With the theme, “Academia and Industry: The Variance Between the Current University Curriculum and the Demands of Industry” the event focused on the pressing need for educational institutions to align their curricula with the evolving job market.
Addressing the Skills Gap
Speaking at the event, Akosua Osei, Project Lead for Future of Work 2.0, stressed the importance of preparing university students for the fast-changing job market. She highlighted the need for a mindset shift in career goal-setting, stating that training alone is not enough but students must also be nurtured and guided toward real opportunities.
“We believe that after training, one has to be nurtured. A lot of people receive training, but they don’t know how to start or where to find opportunities. Training goes beyond the institution providing knowledge; individuals also play a role in shaping their career and global aspirations,” she said.
The Future of Work 2.0 event will feature industry leaders in technology, academia, and soft skills development, who will share invaluable insights and practical knowledge with students and young professionals.
Industry Collaboration and Support
Ama Sackey, Marketing Manager at ALX, reiterated ALX’s commitment to training three million young Africans by 2030, aligning perfectly with the mission of Future of Work 2.0.
“By 2030, we want to have impacted three million young Africans. We aim to shape the future together and not allow it to become a ticking time bomb where young people turn to vices. Instead, we want them to take ownership of the future and leverage technology for transformation” she stated.
Vittoria Paolino, Operations Manager at Turntabl, also emphasised the importance of training and upskilling software engineers while connecting them to global opportunities. She noted that positioning Ghana as a leading hub for tech talent is a key objective.
“Turntabl offers a great opportunity for Ghanaian talent not only to showcase their skills but also to connect and build networks with global professionals. The goal is to highlight the depth of talent in Ghana and show what young Ghanaian professionals can achieve when connected hence, ‘BeTechConnected’ with the world”
Adding to the conversation, Martin Kwame Awagah, President of the Ghana Fintech & Payments Association, spoke about the significance of adapting workplace procedures and aligning educational curricula with emerging industry trends.
“My first degree and masters were both in economics. But when I recognized the shift toward emerging technologies and AI, I didn’t need anyone to tell me to adapt. The world is moving in a different direction, and we must integrate technology into all university courses” he said.
With strong backing from industry leaders, academic institutions, and media partners, Future of Work 2.0 is set to be a landmark event in shaping the careers of young professionals. By fostering collaboration between academia and industry, the event seeks to equip students with the skills and networks required to excel in an increasingly competitive job market. As Ghana positions itself as a hub for tech talent, initiatives like Future of Work 2.0 will play a crucial role in ensuring the next generation is prepared to meet global demands.
