Road crashes kill 77 people in Bono Region in 2024 – NRSA

Seventy-seven people died through 167 road crashes reported in the Bono Region in 2024, Ms Abigail Atinpoka, the Bono Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) said on Wednesday.  

The crashes involved 233 vehicles and left 163 people with various degrees of injuries; adding that the region also recorded 20 pedestrian knockdowns, with 88 motorcycle crashes recorded within the period.  
Comparatively, she said the road crashes increased marginally, with the 2023 recording 134 involving 184 vehicles and 44 deaths, with most of the deaths being recorded among males, 18 years and above representing 81 percent. 

Describing the deaths as needless, Ms Atinpoka called on commercial drivers to reduce speeding, and endeavour to observe road traffic signs and regulations and ensure regular maintenance of their drivers.  
She said research identified human error or driver negligence remained the major factors contributing to road crashes in the region.
