GES cautions school heads against charging unauthorised BECE registration fees

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned Heads of Basic Schools against charging unauthorised fees for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

This comes on the heels of some allegations on social media that certain school heads were imposing unauthorised fees on final-year students.

A statement from the GES, signed by Madam Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of Public Relations, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, urged regional education directors to alert the district directors to monitor the situation and caution the schools against the practice. 

Any school head who had collected such unauthorised fees was required to refund the monies promptly, it said, failure of which would result in sanctions.

“Heads of basic schools are reminded that late registration of candidates will not be permitted,” the statement said. “Therefore, all eligible candidates must be registered within the stipulated registration period set by the West African Examinations Council.”
