Dr Randy Abbey appointed Acting CEO of COCOBOD

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), effective January 21, 2025.

This appointment follows the resignation of the former CEO, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, who stepped down on January 7, 2025, after serving in the position for eight years.

Dr. Abbey, a seasoned journalist and football administrator, brings a wealth of experience to COCOBOD. His leadership is anticipated to infuse new energy and strategic direction into the organization, which plays a pivotal role in Ghana’s cocoa industry.

The official communication from the Office of the President, signed by Secretary Callistus Mahama, stated:

“I write to formally inform you that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L 81), has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Board of Ghana Cocoa Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.” Dr. Abbey’s appointment is expected to steer COCOBOD towards achieving its objectives and further strengthening Ghana’s position in the global cocoa market.
