GSE indices continue upward trend

THE Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) recorded notable gains during the third trading session of the week, reflecting strong investor confidence.
The GSE Composite Index rose by 1.25 points to close at 4,708.05 points, representing a year-to-date increase of 50.41%.
Similarly, the GSE Financial Stock Index gained 1.5 points to end the day at 2,370.11 points, with a year-to-date growth of 24.64%.
Market capitalization experienced a slight uptick of 0.01%, reaching GH¢108.8 billion, which translates to a year-to-date growth of 47.25%. Key performers for the day included GCB Bank, which appreciated by GH¢0.05 to settle at GH¢6.35, and Total Energies, which gained GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢12.92 per share. Notably, there were no recorded losers for the session.
Trading activity, however, showed a significant slowdown, with volumes decreasing by 94.71% to 199,547 shares and a total value of GH¢1,174,933.36. MTN Ghana led trading volumes, accounting for 32.8% of the total activity.
On the forex market, the Ghanaian cedi appreciated against major currencies. It strengthened by 0.48% against the US dollar to close at GH¢14.68 per dollar, reflecting a year-to-date depreciation of 19.07%.
Against the British pound, the cedi appreciated by 0.57% to GH¢18.71, representing a year-to-date depreciation of 19.12%. The cedi also appreciated by 0.66% against the euro, closing at GH¢15.40, with a year-to-date depreciation of 14.76%. These forex rates are based on the Bank of Ghana’s interbank mid-rates, highlighting a positive day for both the GSE and the local currency.
