Over $240m invested since AT takeover, $10m claim false – Telecel

Telecel Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to long-term investment and operational growth, dismissing recent claims about its profitability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

The company highlighted its ongoing financial contributions, infrastructure upgrades and community partnerships as part of its strategic business plan following the acquisition of AT Ghana.

In a press statement, Telecel Ghana emphasised that its CSR and community partnerships are driven by long-term social impact and stakeholder engagement. The company stated that it will continue to invest in the communities in which it operates, consistent with its values and track record.

“The attempt to project these social interventions as an apparent effort to gain goodwill is disingenuous and should be disregarded. Telecel will continue to invest in the communities in which we operate, as we have done over the years,” the statement noted.

Telecel Ghana clarified that over USD240 million in financial relief and investments have been made since the acquisition of AT Ghana in 2023, contrary to recent reports suggesting a figure of USD10 million. These investments include reducing legacy debts and making significant contributions to network expansion, infrastructure modernisation and digital services nationwide.

“Telecel Ghana is profitable, posting a year-to-date net profit of several hundred million Ghana cedis. Our operational performance remains robust despite contrary media reports,” the statement said.

The company also explained that the National Communications Authority (NCA) mandated the migration of AT Ghana’s network traffic to Telecel’s network after AT’s sites were shut down by ATC Ghana in August 2025 due to unresolved debts. Telecel has been providing national roaming services to AT as a temporary measure to ensure continuous mobile voice and data services for AT customers across Ghana.

Regarding transparency and governance, Telecel Ghana noted that it operates under the registered name Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited, with the Government of Ghana holding a 30 per cent stake on behalf of its citizens.

Telecel therefore called for constructive engagement with stakeholders to ensure that discussions around its operations and performance are based on verified facts.

“We conduct business with professionalism, transparency and legal compliance, committed to safeguarding the interests of customers, partners, employees and shareholders,” the statement added.
