French Embassy moves to bridge gap between artistry and business

Story: Abdulai SAAKA, Accra

JULES Armand Aniambossou, the French ambassador to Ghana has highlighted the impact of the Creation Africa Ghana Incubation Programme at the opening of the “Creation Africa Ghana” Festival.

The festival, hosted by the French Embassy in Ghana alongside Alliance Française Accra and Impact Hub Accra, showcased the power of African creativity, culture, and entrepreneurship.

The Ambassador underscored the unique role of the incubation program, describing it as a “cornerstone of the French national Creation Africa initiative” designed to empower Ghanaian entrepreneurs and bridge the gap between artistry and business.

As the first initiative of its kind in Africa, the program has already supported 30 entrepreneurs, offering them resources and mentorship to grow their ventures.

“This incubation program is a new partnership we are co-constructing with Ghana,” Aniambossou said, noting that the program is part of a broader vision led by French President Emmanuel Macron to foster sustainable job creation and innovation across Africa.

He added that 15 project winners were selected by an independent jury for additional financial support, underscoring the program’s commitment to empowering Ghana’s brightest creative minds.

A Celebration of Ghanaian Innovation and Culture

The Creation Africa Ghana Festival included a variety of events — from pop-up stores and stage plays to live concerts and listening sessions — all meant to introduce a broader audience to the creative energy of Ghana.

“Tonight, we hope that these festivals allow a general audience, not only professionals, to discover the diversity and creativity of Ghanaian artists and cultural entrepreneurs,” Aniambossou said, expressing pride in the event’s successful turnout and the innovation on display.

Building Partnerships for Long-Term Success

The Ambassador emphasized the teamwork behind the initiative, acknowledging the support of several French organizations including France’s Development Agency (AFD) and Proparco.

Together, they have provided essential resources for Creation Africa Ghana’s programs and events. Aniambossou extended special thanks to Julien Le Car, Head of Cooperation at the French Embassy, whose leadership has been instrumental in realizing this vision.

Expanding Ghana’s Creative Horizons

Beyond incubation, the festival features various initiatives for capacity building, with programs offering exposure in France, West Africa, and beyond. The Ambassador shared that over 100 Ghanaian artists and creative entrepreneurs have participated, benefitting from international residencies, festivals, and training opportunities.

“Ghana is blessed with many talents,” he stated, affirming the French Embassy’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s creative industries as valuable sources of employment and cultural influence.

A Look to the Future with Creation Africa Ghana

Reflecting on the program’s first year, Aniambossou announced plans to expand Creation Africa Ghana into a second season in 2024. “We are convinced this partnership can only grow stronger,” he said, urging the audience to anticipate more opportunities for Ghanaian creatives in the coming year.

Concluding his speech, he expressed gratitude to key figures in organizing the festival, including Mario, Ophibia, and Jeremy, and invited the audience to enjoy the evening’s lineup of music, art, and performances. “Let’s watch, taste, hear, and now listen to these creators showing us their talent and sharing their passion with us,” he said, signaling an optimistic future for Ghana’s creative and cultural sectors under Creation Africa Ghana.
