CAMFED Ghana courts media support

By Yahaya MASAHUDU, Tamale

CAMFED Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation supporting vulnerable girls’ education has called on the media in Ghana to support its activities towards ensuring that the girl-child stays and succeeds in school.

CAMFED Ghana made the call at a media partnership meeting held in Tamale.

In her welcome address, the Executive Director for CAMFED Ghana, Fairuza Abdul-Rashid Safian emphasized the important role the media play in the socio-economic development of any society.

“In light of this, we have worked to build a mutually beneficial strategic partnership with the Ghanaian media as partners in development,” Mrs Safian stressed.

At the partnership meeting, members of the media, drawn from the Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West and Bono regions, were briefed about CAMFED Ghana’s work to deepen their understanding of the organization’s contribution towards girls’ education, women’s empowerment as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDCs) four and five.

Mrs Safian also appealed to government to support one of its flagship programs – the Learner Guide which is designed to help boys and girls, through the ‘My Better World Curriculum’, succeed at school.

“When you have a guide to support the young people, they are able to stay and succeed at school. We want to be able to embed this practice in the national education system so that at all levels, all the time, even outside of our operational districts, you will have a guide that will support young people to stay and at least succeed at school,” she stated.

She also implored parents to give young people the space to learn at home and afford them opportunities to engage with their colleagues on learning platforms. At the meeting, presentations were made on CAMFED’s programs and key upcoming events, media and communication activities, highlights of CAMFED Association’s activities, KPIs and CAMFED’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.
