Bessa Simons honoured at Ghana Business Awards

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, has been celebrated with the prestigious Music Legend award at the 7th Ghana Business Awards, held over the weekend  in Accra.

This accolade recognizes Simons’ profound impact on Ghana’s music industry and his enduring dedication to elevating Ghanaian music on the global stage.

In his acceptance speech, a visibly grateful Simons expressed deep appreciation for the recognition. “I am highly elated by this honor, and I thank the organizers for acknowledging my journey in music. I dedicate this award to the members of MUSIGA who have inspired and supported me along the way,” he stated, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of the union and the shared achievements of Ghanaian musicians.

The Music Legend award has previously highlighted icons who have left a lasting mark on Ghana’s music scene. Last year, the title was awarded to the celebrated artist Amandzeba Nat Brew, underscoring a legacy of talent and influence within Ghana’s rich musical history.

The Ghana Business Awards, established to honor excellence across diverse industries, celebrated not only individuals in the music industry but also top business leaders and innovators dedicated to Ghana’s national development. With categories spanning multiple sectors, the awards showcased the relentless commitment of individuals and organizations to drive positive change in Ghana.

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture,Mr  Bryan Acheampong, the Ministry’s Chief Director, Mr. Patrick Ankobiah, highlighted the potential of the tourism, arts, and culture sectors as avenues for wealth and job creation. He encouraged business leaders to consider the vast opportunities these sectors offer and to invest in their growth. “The tourism, arts, and culture sectors hold untapped potential not only to boost our economy but also to create meaningful employment for the youth,” he noted.

In addition to recognizing outstanding contributions, the awards ceremony underscored the importance of partnerships. Lateef Abubakar, CEO of Globe Productions, expressed gratitude to the business community for its continued support of the awards scheme. He highlighted that the success of the event relied on collective efforts, saying, “The Ghana Business Awards is not just about recognizing achievement; it’s about inspiring future leaders in every sector, from the arts to technology and beyond.” With influential figures like Bessa Simons and Amandzeba Nat Brew honored for their dedication to Ghana’s cultural heritage, the event served as a reminder of the vital role the arts play in national identity and progress.
