Starbucks boss shakes up menu to win back customers

Starbucks’ new CEO, Brian Niccol, has announced plans to revamp the company’s global menu as the coffee chain faces declining sales and profits. He also suspended financial forecasts for the upcoming year, citing the current challenges the business is facing.
Despite the company’s recent efforts, preliminary reports show a sharp drop in both sales and profits, prompting a more than 4% decline in Starbucks’ stock.
The company expects global comparable sales for the quarter ending in September to drop by 7%, with profits falling by 25%. The downturn has been particularly severe in China, where sales fell by 14% amid economic struggles.
Niccol, who took over as CEO in September, is set on simplifying Starbucks’ menu and restructuring its pricing in an effort to enhance customer experience and restore growth. Rising living costs have led to reduced consumer spending, contributing to the company’s struggles.
Starbucks will release its full quarterly results next week. As part of the restructuring plan, the company aims to improve service efficiency and reduce wait times, which could help bring customers back. Niccol, previously the head of Chipotle, was brought in to steer Starbucks through these challenges. However, his decision to commute from California to Seattle via corporate jet has drawn criticism, seen by some as conflicting with the company’s environmental commitments.
