Presz Mahama to Lead Accra Reset at Davos Forum

President John Dramani Mahama will lead the Accra Reset conversation at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos on January 22, 2026, according to an official statement from the Presidency.

The Accra Reset is a Global South initiative aimed at strengthening sovereign capacity and reimagining international cooperation in response to mounting global challenges. It was first introduced at the 2025 UN General Assembly and later endorsed at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.

President Mahama will be joined by fellow Presidential Council members, including leaders from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Papua New Guinea. The initiative also draws support from a Guardians Circle of former Heads of State, such as President Olusegun Obasanjo, Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The Davos meeting will mark the launch of priority programs under the Accra Reset, which seeks to address a wide range of global issues, from great-power rivalries and trade tensions to climate shocks, pandemics, and the rising cost of living.

In his remarks, President Mahama emphasized that the Accra Reset complements his domestic reform agenda, which focuses on internal transformation and equitable global governance. He stressed the importance of sovereignty in executing national development visions and called for strategic partnerships across Africa and the Global South.

“The Accra Reset is not just a conversation, it’s a commitment to reshaping how nations collaborate in a time of overlapping crises,” Mahama said.

The initiative aims to shift the global aid narrative, promote fairer trade practices, and build resilience among developing nations. It also seeks to empower countries to take ownership of their development paths while forging stronger regional and international alliances.

The Presidency’s statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, described the Accra Reset as a bold step toward inclusive global reform.

As world leaders gather in Davos, the Accra Reset is expected to offer a fresh perspective on how the Global South can lead in shaping a more balanced and cooperative international system.
