Ghanaian referees earn GHC1000 per game – Referees chairman reveals

The chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana, George Saijah has disclosed that referees officiating Ghana Premier League matches earn GHS 1,000 per game.

This revelation comes amid concerns that some referees may feel pressured to favor certain clubs due to low pay.

Speaking during a probe into a petition from the Save Ghana Football Forum, Saijah clarified the compensation structure for the Ghana Premier League, Division One League and Women’s League.

He explained that this amount covers transportation, officiating fees, hotel accommodation, and meals.

“[The salary] is a take-home of 1,000 cedis for Premier League referees. The Division One League and the referees in the Women’s League receive 750 cedis,” he said.

According to him, the money the referees receive includes their feeding as well as accommodation.

“The 1,000 cedis comprise of their transportation, officiating, hotel and food.”

However, simple breakdown of the expenses of a referee for one game would likely be more than the amount they are given.
