Ghanaian artist completes 5-day painting marathon

– Aims to break Guinness World Record

GHANAIAN artist, Seraphina Pabi, has successfully completed a grueling five-day painting marathon, overcoming a series of physical and emotional challenges along the way.

She aims to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest painting marathon.

She embarked on a successful 120-hour painting marathon which started September 20 and ended at 3:00 pm on September 25, 2024 surpassing the current record period of four days.

She made a total of 105 nature and culture-inspired paintings.

Having applied for the record last year, she has been preparing for this moment, confident that her endurance and dedication will earn her the coveted title.

Initially, she aimed to finish the project within 120 hours but had to extend her timeline due to organizational difficulties with her team.

Despite these hurdles, she persevered and completed the marathon, describing it as “one of the most stressful things” she has ever done.

Motivation

In an interview with the New Finder, she explained that her decision to undertake the marathon was fueled by a desire to challenge societal stereotypes about women in art.

“A friend introduced me to the head master of a school which needed a creative arts teacher. When the head teacher saw me as a lady, he said he would have preferred a man rather than a woman. That provoked me to pursue this.

I wanted to prove that women are just as capable in this field,” she said.

Seraphina hopes that her efforts will inspire other female artists and creatives to break barriers and push past limitations imposed by societal expectations.

Challenges

During the marathon, Seraphina shared that she experienced physical pain, especially from standing for extended periods.

She noted that her sister played a crucial role in helping her overcome these challenges by offering support and ensuring that she did not face any recurring issues.

“The pain lasted for about 10 minutes, but once I made adjustments, I was able to continue,” she recounted.

Looking ahead, Seraphina plans to focus on promoting her brand and collaborating with other artists and businesses.

“I know I am a good artist, and I’ve worked hard. Now I want to take my brand to the next level and reach an international audience,” she said.

In addition to her personal ambitions, she hopes to open doors for other creatives and businesses through her work.

Seraphina encouraged young artists to pursue their dreams despite obstacles.

“Don’t give up on your dreams, no matter what others say. I faced doubts, but I pushed through, and you can too.”

She also revealed her ambition of establishing an art gallery to showcase her talent and passion for painting. Known for her striking painting skills, Seraphina is determined to leave her mark in the art world while inspiring the next generation of female artists to pursue their dreams.
