The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has announced that six youth resource centres are set for commissioning, with the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre scheduled to be inaugurated later this month.
The commissioning event in Koforidua will be graced by the presence of Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, on December 28, 2023.
The construction of these youth resource centres, initiated during the tenure of former Youth and Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah, includes multi-sport facilities located in regional areas such as Axim in the Western Region and Dunkwa Offin in the Central Region.
The development of these centres aligns with Ghana’s broader infrastructure initiatives, coinciding with the country’s preparations to host the 13th edition of the African Games from March 8 to March 23, 2024.
Mustapha Ussif stated in his parliamentary address, “The 10 youth resource centres that we started, six of them currently are all ready for commissioning.”
He further revealed that the commissioning ceremony for the Koforidua Stadium is scheduled for December 28, where President Nana Akufo-Addo will officiate the event.
These youth resource centres are expected to contribute significantly to sports development, providing state-of-the-art facilities for training and promoting sports excellence among the youth in various regions of Ghana.
The upcoming commissioning represents a milestone in the nation’s commitment to fostering a thriving sports culture and hosting major international sporting events.
