Access Bank storms 16 regions with job-creating, eco-friendly initiative

As part of its ongoing 15th Anniversary celebrations, Access Bank (Ghana) Plc has launched the second phase of its impactful “A Sandal More for a Better Tomorrow” initiative.
The initiative, which began with the goal of improving access to education and fostering community growth, now aims to deliver over 20,000 sandals to school children in need across Ghana.
Beyond ensuring that more children are equipped to attend school regularly, reducing absenteeism, and contributing to educational advancement, the initiative will promote job creation through partnerships with over 500 shoemakers in the Ashanti region as well as other artisans set to benefit.
The project is also championing environmental sustainability by utilizing eco-friendly materials like repurposed tyres.
The distribution of the sandals during this phase will be carried out via the “Better Tomorrow Truck,” which will drive through all 16 regions of Ghana, delivering sandals to selected schools identified by the Ghana Education Service and through social media engagement with citizens. Committed to environmental sustainability, the sandals are made from used tyres, reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.
Recognizing the environmental impact of emissions from the truck during its nationwide journey, the initiative will also plant trees in each region to offset the emissions, aligning with Access Bank’s commitment to sustainability.
Madam Ugochi Okoro, the Chief Operating Officer of the bank emphasized the importance of the initiative during the launch event. She stated, “Education is the foundation of any thriving society, and ensuring that no child is left behind is one of our core missions. “Our ‘A Sandal More for a Better Tomorrow’ initiative goes beyond providing footwear—it’s about creating opportunities, uplifting communities, and protecting our environment.
