Ghana winger Ibrahim Sadiq opens season account with winner for AZ Alkmaar
By Lukman MUMIN, Accra
Former Ghana U17 winger Ibrahim Sadiq registered his name on the scoresheet in the opening game of the season in Holland as AZ Alkmaar defeated Almere City FC.
In a fiercely contested game at the Yanmar Stadion, the Ghanaian forward scored the only goal after four minutes.
Sadiq majestically smashed home the winner after picking up a long pass before turning his marker and firing past Almere City’s shot-stopper.
Despite being substituted in the 57th minute by Dutch-born Ghanaian forward Ernest Poku, Sadiq’s early goal proved crucial for the victory.
The game was marked by disciplinary issues, with AZ Alkmaar’s Maxim Dekker receiving a red card in the 18th minute.
Meanwhile, Almere City FC faced a tougher challenge, as Baptiste
Guillaume and Ricardo Visus were sent off in the 34th and 79th minutes, respectively. AZ Alkmaar will look to build on this win when they face NEC Nijmegen in their next league fixture on August 17th.
