ATU launches annual Fashion Exhibition by final-year students

The Fashion Design and Textile Department at Accra Technical University (ATU) has launched its annual Fashion Exhibition with a display of final-year student’s crafts.

The exhibition was for students at the University to demonstrate skills acquired at the Fashion Department.

Notable themes, including ‘nature’, ‘confidence in elegance’, ‘art, ‘taste of life’, ‘seashells, ‘reflection’, ‘beauty and feminity’, featured prominently.

Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Professor Felix Kutsanedzie, encouraged students to embrace innovation and adopt a business-oriented mindset.
He highlighted the significance of the exhibition in fostering student creativity and celebrating the Fashion Department, especially as the Institution marks its 75th anniversary.

He expressed satisfaction with the showcased handicrafts, noting that industries continue to value graduates from the University for their proficiency and creativity in the workforce.
This he added was the result of the premium that the university places on competency-based training.

‘’As a TVET institution, we value the skill and knowledge of our students and how they bring it to the public through things that are not only knowledge-based, but skill based.
‘’Our target is that they will continue to innovate and fill various institutions in the country and create lot of jobs because they have been empowered with entrepreneurial skills,’’  he stated.

Head of the Fashion and Textiles Department,Ms. Catherine Adu, noted that the students have carved a niche for themselves and have all it takes to excel in the world of work.
“A lot of the things on display are sustainable and creative. Creativity is what rules the world and I am excited with the works they have produced,” she said. The trainees are expected to mount the runway at the National Theatre in Accra, on Friday night to project other stunning garments and designs.
