Financial clearance granted for recruitment of 15,200 Nurses and Midwives
The Ministry of Finance has approved funding for the recruitment of 15,200 nurses and midwives nationwide.
The recruitment process will commence on Monday, August 5. The Ministry Of Health has directed all prospective candidates to visit the Health Ministry’s website for detailed application instructions.
The deadline for applications is Friday, August 23, and all qualified individuals are urged to submit their applications promptly to meet the specified timeframe.
This development follows months of agitation by the Coalition of Nurses and Midwives, which has voiced its discontent over the government’s failure to grant financial clearance and secure permanent employment for over 75,000 graduate nurses and midwives trained at various accredited public universities and training colleges.
The leadership of the coalition previously petitioned the Ministry of Health (MoH), Parliament, and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) regarding this issue.

The coalition had expressed frustration with the Ministry of Finance’s failure to provide financial clearance for their posting despite the successful completion of their Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) licensing exams. Over 75,000 graduate nurses and midwives had been unemployed for up to four years after completing their training.
On Friday, March 1, 2024, the coalition organized a protest in the region to express their dissatisfaction with the government’s inaction. They specifically targeted the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance, criticizing these entities for not granting financial clearance and permanent employment for the trained graduates.
