Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications visits MTN Ghana

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications has visited MTN Ghana’s Head Office in Accra to assess the network’s performance and evaluate the measures being taken to enhance services nationwide.
The Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe addressed the parliamentarians.
She explained that the meeting aimed to demonstrate MTN’s efforts in managing and monitoring its network.
“We engaged with Parliament a few weeks ago, and they inquired about our network performance and the steps we are taking to improve it. We thought it prudent to bring them into our Network Operation Center to showcase the work we are doing to enhance service delivery for our customers,” she stated.
She highlighted that MTN Ghana is currently undergoing a major network upgrade, replacing old equipment with new, advanced technology.
She added that this upgrade is being carried out in Greater Accra, progressing cluster by cluster.
“Given the scale of this project, we have experienced some network connectivity issues over the past two weeks. However, we are actively resolving these issues,” she noted.
Expressing optimism about the future, she added, “Once all the new equipment is in place, we expect a significant improvement in the quality of our service delivery.”
The members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications also discussed making internet data more affordable for the public.
“I believe the NCA has addressed the subject of why we have some of the data pricing. They have also talked about how low our prices are in the sub-region,” she explained.
She mentioned that MTN Ghana’s status, as a significant market player requires their data prices to be higher than competitors to improve competition, as explained by the NCA.
She indicated that other key issues discussed included cybersecurity and measures to curb fraud.
According to her MTN Ghana has already collaborated with relevant agencies to combat this issue and will continue collaborating with stakeholders to protect its customers. The visit underscores the collaborative efforts between MTN Ghana and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications to ensure reliable and enhanced telecommunications s
