First Sky Group to construct 50 churches and houses for Assemblies of God

By Daniel NONOR, Accra

First Sky Group, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, has commenced the construction of 50 churches and 50 two-bedroom houses in rural communities in the Greater Accra Region for the Assemblies of God Church.

This initiative, known as the Legacy Project, aims to provide places of worship and decent accommodation for pastors.

At the groundbreaking ceremony held at New Ningo Prampram on Monday, Mr. John Awate, a member of the project committee, announced that a four-member committee has been established to oversee the construction.

Each church building, with a capacity to hold between 200 and 450 congregants, will include a children’s worship center, a general office, a pastor’s office, and other essential facilities.

Deacon Eric Seddy Kutortse, Chairman of First Sky Group, shared that the idea for this project was conceived eight years ago by the Group’s management.

They decided to allocate 30 percent of the profits from all their subsidiaries to support kingdom advancement projects and humanitarian efforts.

The Group has already constructed 72 chapels across the country.

“The attachment of the two-bedroom houses to the church buildings is a means to dignify priesthood by providing decent accommodation for pastors posted to these communities,” Deacon Kutortse said, adding that the completion of this extensive project is anticipated by the end of the year.

Rev. Stephen Wengan, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, and Senior Pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel , highlighted the significance of this project. He noted that 60 percent of their churches are located in rural areas, making it challenging to build adequate places of worship.

He emphasized that the church’s transformative agenda includes a Reach Agenda spearheaded by the Church Planting Commission and the Rebuild Agenda, which focuses on building temples under the Legacy Project.

Rev. Wengan called on corporate Ghana and individuals to support the Legacy Project, emphasizing that the initiative allows for the construction and completion of temples across the country.

He expressed gratitude to First Sky Group, stating, “I am calling on Christendom to emulate what the First Sky Group has done.”

He also commended the Group for their ongoing support, having already built 70 temples for the church. Rev. Wengan noted that pastors were severely impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and providing them with accommodation is a commendable effort.

He urged all church members to commit themselves to building physical structures for the church’s advancement.

Rev. Andrews N. Awintia, Regional Superintendent for Accra East of the Assemblies of God Church, also expressed his thanks to the Chairman of First Sky Group for this generous gesture.

The Legacy Project stands as a testament to First Sky Group’s dedication to community development and support for religious institutions, paving the way for improved worship spaces and better living conditions for pastors in rural Ghana.
