Finance minister to present Mid-Year budget on July 23

Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, is set to present the Mid-Year Budget Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy for the 2024 Financial Year to Parliament on Tuesday, July 23.

This announcement was made by Mr. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip, while presenting the Business Statement for the sixth week ending Friday, July 19, 2024, on the Floor of the House.

“The Business Committee takes this opportunity to give prior notice to Honourable Members that the Minister for Finance is expected to present the Mid-Year Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government for the 2024 financial year on Tuesday, 23 July, 2024,” Mr. Annoh-Dompreh stated.

The upcoming presentation will provide updates on the implementation of the 2024 Budget, offering insights into the economic and fiscal performance for the first half of the year.

To accommodate the heavy workload, the Business Committee has scheduled parliamentary sittings on Mondays, starting from July 15, 2024. Additionally, extended sittings will continue throughout the week.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, noted that a Committee of the Whole meeting is proposed for Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

This meeting will involve discussions with the Administrator of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund and the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh urged members to attend the meeting, emphasizing its importance.

For the upcoming week’s agenda, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations are scheduled to brief the House on the ongoing strike action by lecturers at the Colleges of Education.

The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations will also address the House regarding the strike action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).

In total, ten ministers are expected to attend Parliament to respond to 66 questions, including six urgent and 60 oral questions.

The ministers scheduled to attend include those from Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development; Interior; Energy; Gender, Children and Social Protection; and Roads and Highways. Additionally, the ministers of Transport, Employment and Labour Relations, Trade and Industry, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and Fisheries and Aquaculture Development will also be present.
