MTN Yellow Care commissions Projects at Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School

MTN Ghana has wrapped up its 30 Days of Y’ello Care initiative by commissioning groundbreaking projects at Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School in the Eastern Region.
MTN Y’ello Care is a group-wide employee volunteerism programme that enables staff to actively engage in community development projects across MTN’s operating countries.
Since its inception in 2007, the initiative has impacted millions of people and hundreds of communities across the continent
This year’s theme, “Education for Rural and Remote Communities – Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow,” highlights the transformative power of education in driving socio-economic growth and preparing the youth for the future.
As part of this year’s programme, the employee volunteers implemented the specialized “Quench and Connect” which provided MTNers the opportunity to address critical needs at the Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School.
The project includes an eight-seater restroom to enhance student facilities, a State-of-the-Art ICT Laboratory equipped with 10 computers, a mini library, and an online academic content resource tailored to the students’ needs.
As part of efforts to ensure a consistent water supply, a digitalized internet of things (IoT) borehole and four reservoir tanks were installed for the school with additional smart farm, established to improve the nutritional quality of school meals, and resources to create a robotics club.
The project also included data education and digital literacy workshops for both students and teachers.
Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting education and community development through innovative solutions.
“For the past 17 years, our employees have dedicated themselves to 21 days of service each June. This year, we extended it to celebrate MTN’s success across the continent,” he said.
He noted that the 30 Days of Y’ello Care programme at Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School stands as a testament to the positive impact of corporate social responsibility and the power of volunteerism.
“This volunteer programme involves the MTN Ghana Foundation, MTN itself, and our staff,” he added.
He disclosed that the programme impacted over 40,000 students across 25 Senior High Schools nationwide, and stated that the pilot project will be replicated across 16 regions, showcasing the power of technology in improving lives.
He stated that the provision of an ICT lab and other digital resources aimed to spark curiosity and encourage students to embrace the digital challenge.
“It’s crucial that every child graduates with digital skills to succeed in today’s world,” he stressed.
He added that it also gives students an opportunity to experience a digital world, learn, and potentially find future careers.”
The CEO commended the school’s Head Mistress, Joyce Appiah, for her leadership, noting, that the success of the school was evident because of her outstanding leadership.
He assured that MTN Ghana Foundation would continue to support educational programmes, particularly in STEM and digital skills training.
He noted the importance of lifting people up, a challenge he urged every corporate entity in Ghana to take up.
The Head Mistress, Joyce Appiah, expressed her profound gratitude to MTN Ghana for its transformative 30 Days of Y’ello Care initiative.
She commended MTN Ghana for choosing the school as the main beneficiary of the programme, stating that “MTN chose well.”
She emphasized the school’s commitment to maintaining the new facilities and resources and made a special appeal for MTN Ghana to adopt Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School as their model school, ensuring a continued partnership for future development.
The school community extended their deepest gratitude to MTN Ghana and all supporting partners for their dedication to enhancing the quality of education in Ghana.
Deputy Minister of Education Rev. John Ntim Fordjour commemorated Ghana’s 64th Republic Day with the conclusion of MTN’s 30 Days of Y’ello Care initiative, highlighting the significant impact of the event on education and community development.
“Every fund that you put into education and making education better is not just an expenditure but a worthy investment whose dividend will soon be enjoyed by all,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the African Union’s declaration of the year as the “Year of Education,” stressing the necessity of digital literacy and infrastructure, and assured continued collaboration with MTN to enhance educational opportunities across Ghana.
