Ministry calls for calm amid management dispute at Adamus Resources

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has appealed for calm amidst escalating tensions involving Adamus Resources Limited, a mining company operating in the Western Region of Ghana.

This call for peace follows disputes over the company’s management, particularly regarding the interim Management Committee (IMC) established by the Accra High Court of Justice (Commercial Division 7) on July 27, 2023.

The IMC has faced obstruction in executing its duties.

On April 17, 2024, security personnel and police officers blocked the IMC at the main entrance of Adamus Resources Limited’s headquarters in the Ellembelle District, preventing the committee from entering the premises to familiarize themselves with the company’s operations and interact with workers.

In a statement, the Ministry emphasized the necessity of peaceful dialogue and negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflicts.

It urged all parties to avoid actions that could escalate the situation and jeopardize the safety and well-being of the affected communities.

The Ministry clarified that the government is not involved in the ongoing legal dispute and does not support any side.

It stressed the importance of respecting the judicial process and allowing the courts to resolve the issue peacefully.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring that mining activities in Ghana adhere to legal and ethical standards.

“The Ministry has faith in the courts of our country to deal with all the matters in issue. The Ministry will, however, take the necessary measures to engage the parties to attempt an amicable resolution of the matter,” the statement said.

 It also urged all parties to refrain from addressing the matter in the media or taking actions that could prejudice the fair adjudication of the matters in court.

The Ministry called on all stakeholders to cooperate in finding a resolution that promotes peace and stability in the region.

It emphasized that actions jeopardizing the smooth operation of the company should be avoided while the court deliberates on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Member of Nkroful in the Ellembelle District, Mr. Francis Kwaw Mensah, alongside other employees of Adamus Resources Limited, has expressed support for the company’s CEO, Ms. Angela List.

They affirmed their willingness to continue working under her leadership, citing her positive impact on the company and the local community.

Mr. Mensah praised Ms. List’s management, highlighting her significant contributions to local economic growth and empowerment.

“Under the distinct leadership of the CEO, Madam Angela List, our lives have improved. We can take better care of ourselves and our dependents,” he said.

“I have witnessed tremendous developmental projects that have enhanced the lives of our people.”

Despite this support, some factions within the company are calling for Ms. List to step down to allow an interim Management Committee to address the ongoing ownership and leadership disputes.

He said through the efforts of the CEO the company had been able to execute projects, under education, public infrastructure, water and sanitation, donation, community assistance, among others.

The company has constructed a two-unit classroom block and provided two 16-seater aqua privy toilets at Anwia and then constructed Anwia Nursery School Block.

At Salman, the company has constructed a Health Centre and donated a two-bedroom unit house to Salman Basic School.

Also, at Teleku Bokazo the company has provided water and sanitation to the people and refurbished Teleku Bokazo Basic School.

Again, it has rehabilitated Kikam Junior High School with a staff common room and provided 16-seater Aqua Privy toilet facility at Akango, a hand – dug well with hand pump at Duale as well as the provision of 10-seater flushable toilet facility at Aluku.

In addition, the company has provided skills training/ capacity building for 58 youth (males & females) from Duale, Akango, Salman, Aluku, Salman, Anwia, Teleku Bokazo, Nkroful, Kikam, Asasetre, Nvuma, Avrebo, Adelekezo, Ahunyame, Awukyire, Akropong (16 Communities).

Introduced Women Empowerment (WE) Project where 87 females in the Ellembelle District have obtained skills under College of Beauty Arts and Entrepreneurship (CBAE).

The project sought to endow the women with power to be independent, self-reliant, and employed.

She supported the Ahantaman Girls Senior High School (SHS) with 1000 bags of cement for the construction of their Assembly Hall.

Recently, Madam Angela donated over 300 boxes of sanitary pads to some schools in the catchment area during the Global Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Ms. Angela List was named as the female CEO of the Year in Ghana’s Mining Industry at the eighth Ghana CEO Summit and Excellence Awards for her outstanding leadership, innovation, and commitment to sustainable practices within the mining industry.
