Government urged to prioritise sales professionals in 24-hour economy agenda

The Chief Executive Officer of MGA Consulting Ghana Limited, Michael Abbiw, is urging government to place sales professionals at the centre of Ghana’s proposed 24-hour economy, insisting that no national economic strategy can succeed without the people responsible for driving revenue generation.
He made the call during the launch of the National Sales Leaders Conference (NSLC) and Awards 2026, an initiative aimed at deepening professional capacity within Ghana’s sales fraternity and honouring outstanding performers across the sector.
Mr Abbiw argued that the country’s aspirations of boosting exports, expanding industry and raising productivity would remain limited unless deliberate investment is made toward strengthening the competence of its sales workforce. He described sales professionals as the “backbone of the country’s commercial sector,” emphasising that their relevance is central to national development.
“Sales professionals are the engines behind these businesses that will drive the 24-hour economy because no business can operate beyond daylight if it cannot generate the revenue, market demand or customer traction required to sustain extended operations,” he said.
While acknowledging the crucial part they play in securing customers and sustaining businesses, he lamented that salespeople are frequently undervalued and not given the recognition they deserve. According to him, they consistently serve as the “frontline engine” navigating market shifts and maintaining business growth.
National Sales Awards announced
The organisers also announced that the next NSLC will take place from 17–18 June 2026, under the theme “Redefining Sales Excellence for Today’s Dynamic Market.” The National Sales Awards, unveiled at the launch, will follow on 19 June 2026 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel. The awards form part of the official relaunch of the NSLC and will celebrate resilience, innovation and exceptional sales performance within Ghana’s increasingly competitive marketplace.
The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has endorsed the conference. In a statement, the Chamber’s National Treasurer, Mr Kabutey Caesar, encouraged manufacturers, SMEs and exporters to participate fully, noting that strong sales structures are now indispensable to business continuity.
“Across industries, one thing is clear: businesses that survive today’s economic pressures are those that invest in skilled, disciplined and forward-thinking sales teams,” he said. “For this reason, the Chamber sees the NSLC not just as another gathering, but as one of the few national platforms directly strengthening business competitiveness and revenue performance,” he noted.
The General Manager of CorEvents Solutions, Clarus Kwofie, also appealed to corporate bodies and government institutions to partner and support the 2026 edition, stressing that the NSLC has evolved into a national platform dedicated to enhancing sales leadership standards.
