GSE Market Capitalisation Hits Record GH¢292.6bn

Ghana’s equities market ended the week on a strong note, with the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) recording another positive trading session that pushed total market capitalisation to a historic GH¢292.58 billion.

The milestone came after the benchmark GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) gained 86.33 points to close at 15,611.32 during the exchange’s 7,172nd trading session held on March 13, 2026. The continued rise extends the index’s impressive rally since the beginning of the year and reflects sustained investor confidence in the local equities market.

The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) also posted a strong performance, climbing 137.62 points to settle at 10,145.30, underscoring the dominance of financial sector stocks in the current market rally.

Trading Volume Surges

Friday’s session recorded the highest trading volume of the week, with 20,271,692 shares changing hands at a total market value of GH¢26.33 million.

The surge in trading activity highlights the growing appetite for equities among both institutional and retail investors, as Ghana’s stock market continues to deliver strong returns in 2026.

Cal Bank Dominates Market Activity

Cal Bank PLC emerged as the clear leader in trading activity, accounting for more than 90 percent of the total volume recorded during the session.

A massive 18,581,479 shares of the bank were traded, contributing GH¢16.17 million to the day’s total market value. Despite the high turnover, the stock closed slightly lower at GH¢0.87, representing a decline of GH¢0.01.

ETI and Enterprise Lead Gainers

Among the top-performing stocks, Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) delivered one of the strongest gains of the day. The stock rose GH¢0.22 to close at GH¢2.46, supported by significant investor interest and a trading volume of 270,693 shares.

Enterprise Group PLC (EGL) also recorded a strong performance, rising GH¢0.51 to close at GH¢12.01.

Other notable gainers included Clydestone (Ghana) PLC, which increased by GH¢0.07 to GH¢0.83, and Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, which advanced GH¢0.10 to close at GH¢4.03.

Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) also posted a modest gain of GH¢0.01, ending the session at GH¢7.32.

Some Stocks Decline

Despite the overall positive market performance, several stocks recorded declines during the session.

Fan Milk PLC shed GH¢0.74 to close at GH¢15.40, while Societe Generale Ghana PLC fell GH¢0.60 to GH¢10.76.

SIC Insurance Company PLC dropped GH¢0.09 to GH¢6.90, while Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC declined GH¢0.05 to GH¢16.35.

Meanwhile, Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) and TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC each slipped slightly by GH¢0.01.

Market Momentum Remains Strong

The latest rally means the GSE Composite Index has now gained about 78 percent since the beginning of 2026, while the financial stocks index has delivered an impressive 118.31 percent return over the same period.

Analysts say the strong market performance reflects renewed investor optimism, improved macroeconomic stability and stronger corporate earnings, particularly within the banking and financial services sector.

Friday’s session therefore capped a remarkable week on the Accra bourse, with the market setting fresh records and delivering significant wealth creation for shareholders.
