Interior Ministry Declares December 5 a Statutory Public Holiday for Farmers’ Day

The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Friday, 5 December, will be observed as a statutory public holiday across the country in recognition of this year’s Farmers’ Day celebrations.
In a statement issued in Accra, the sector Minister, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, confirmed the declaration and noted that the day would be marked nationwide. According to the statement, the holiday is in line with the annual tradition of honouring the nation’s farmers and fishers for their contributions to national development.
“Every year on the first Friday in December, Farmers’ Day is observed to honour the enormous contributions that Ghana’s farmers and fishermen have made to the country’s development, food security, and economic growth,” the Ministry said.
This year’s commemoration is being held under the theme, “Eat Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future.” The theme reflects ongoing national efforts to promote local food production, sustainable agriculture, and resilience within the country’s food systems.
The Ministry further encouraged Ghanaians to mark the day in a manner that reflects its importance. “The Ministry urged the public to observe the day appropriately and in line with its significance,” the statement added.
Farmers’ Day has been celebrated annually since 1985 and remains one of Ghana’s most anticipated national events, recognising the dedication of farmers and fishers whose work sustains communities and drives economic growth.
