AG determined to prosecute Ambulance Case
Attorney General (AG) Godfred Yeboah Dame remains steadfast in prosecuting the ambulance case involving Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa, despite a High Court judge’s advice for him to recuse himself.
The High Court judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, suggested that the AG should step away from the trial following concerns about his interactions with the third accused, Richard Jakpa, outside of court. Dame had discussed the case with Jakpa and encouraged him to submit a medical excuse to facilitate an adjournment. Despite these interactions, the judge indicated that there were no sufficient grounds to halt the prosecution.
Justice Asare-Botwe recommended that the AG withdraw from direct prosecution to uphold the judiciary’s best interests. However, during a press briefing after the proceedings, Dame emphasized that the judge’s comment was merely advisory, not an order. He expressed his determination to continue with the prosecution.
“The judge herself clarified that her comment was only advice, not an order. I am still conducting the trial. Importantly, all applications filed by the defense have been dismissed entirely,” Dame stated.
He further criticized certain groups for allegedly distorting facts and deceiving the public, asserting that their manipulative tactics had been exposed by the court’s dismissal of the applications.
“All five applications have failed. This clearly demonstrates that some individuals in this country thrive on manipulation, distortion, and public deception. Today, they have been exposed,” he added.
