Mohammed Polo advises Andre Ayew to retire from Black Stars

By Eustace Nii AKWEI, Accra

Former Black Stars player Mohammed Polo has suggested that Andre Ayew consider retiring from the national team following his exclusion from the latest squad.

The Le Havre player was notably absent from Otto Addo’s squad for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

In response to Ayew’s omission, Polo has advised the 34-year-old to retire from the national team.

Consequently, Thomas Partey will take on the captaincy for the two crucial games against Mali and the Central African Republic in Ayew’s absence.

Ghana currently hold three points from two games in group I, with Comoros leading the group with six points.

“It’s up to Dede to decide to retire or not but I will personally advise him to retire because he has done enough for the nation,” Polo said in an interview with Connect 97.1FM.

“In life, if your time is up, it doesn’t matter what you do. Dede has done a lot for our national teams. What he has done is for prosperity to talk about,” Mohammed Polo added.
