Vivo Energy donates 200 solar lamps to students preparing for 2024 BECE

Vivo Ghana, distributors of Shell Fuel in Ghana, has donated about 200 solar lamps to final year students of the La Enobal Basic School and the La Presby Primary School A and B who are preparing to write the 2024 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The donation of these lamps is to help ease the effects of the recent power outages on the on the preparations of the students for the exams.
Corporate Communications Director of Vivo Energy, Shirley Tony Kum, said “the gesture underscores the company’s commitment to supporting education and addressing the immediate needs of local communities.
The donation was done during the launch of the Vivo Energy Ghana Schools’ Renewable Project, at which the Green4Clean School’s Renewable Energy Energy Project was introduced.
The programme, is being done in partnership with United Way Ghana and Academic City University College to ensure that children in underdeveloped communities receive the best possible education and healthcare.
Green4Clean, which is being implemented under the theme, ‘building a sustainable future, is a project that will seek to empower and provide students in selected schools with in-depth understanding of various renewable energy sources, including solar, wind and biogas energy.
Shirley Tony Kum, said, “with the introduction of innovative educational programmes and practical demonstrations, we aim to inspire the next generation to embrace sustainable energy solutions and raise awareness about environmental challenges and the importance of adopting sustainable energy practices within the school and the broader community.”
She explained the Green4Clean project will involve a three-pronged implementation approach: awareness creation, empowerment and resourcing.
The Executive Director at United Way Ghana, Faustina Abbey, said United Way as Energy Ambassadors had joined in the Green4Clean project to ensure that the students learn about powering their classrooms and their homes using wind and solar energy, in line with their mission of ensuring environmental conservation for the good of all.
Head of the Technology and Entrepreneurship Centre of the Academic City University College revealed that as part of the Green4Clean project, some teachers in the schools will be trained in the installation of solar and wind energy conversion devices. They will also be taught to create biogas devices.
The Director of Education for the la Dadekotopon Municipality, Habiba Kotoma, was grateful to the three organisations for their work in improving education in the municipality.
