RevnaBio Secures Triple International Accreditation to Boost Precision Medicine Research

Precision medicine firm Revna Biosciences (RevnaBio) has obtained three international laboratory accreditations from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA).

 The development is expected to strengthen its laboratory and biobanking capacity to support clinical diagnostics and biomedical research across Africa.

The accreditations cover three globally recognised standards: ISO 15189 for medical laboratories, ISO 20387 for biobanking, and ISO/IEC 17043 for proficiency testing providers.

According to the company, securing the combined certifications confirms the robustness of its integrated quality management systems spanning clinical diagnostics, biospecimen handling, and laboratory performance evaluation.

Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Derrick Akpalu indicated that the recognition demonstrates the company’s dedication to building laboratory systems that align with international standards while responding to healthcare demands locally.

“This accreditation reflects our commitment to establishing laboratory systems that comply with the highest global standards while serving the needs of patients and clinicians in Ghana. By strengthening diagnostic quality, biospecimen infrastructure and laboratory performance monitoring, we aim to support better healthcare outcomes locally while enabling productive collaboration with international research partners working to advance precision medicine,” he said.

He noted that the achievement would allow the company to provide dependable molecular testing services for patients while expanding partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic developers and research institutions undertaking biomedical studies on the continent.

RevnaBio further indicated that the accomplishment marks a significant step toward expanding precision medicine infrastructure in West Africa and enhancing access to internationally accredited diagnostic services.

Through its ISO 15189-accredited laboratory, RevnaBio offers molecular and genomic testing designed to meet global benchmarks for accuracy, quality and traceability.

The company explained that this capability enables clinicians to make more informed treatment decisions while reducing the need to send diagnostic samples abroad for advanced analysis.

It added that strengthening local diagnostic systems could contribute to improved healthcare delivery and better patient outcomes in Ghana.

RevnaBio’s ISO 20387 accreditation also validates its governance framework and operational processes for collecting, processing and preserving research-grade biospecimens.

The company explained that the system allows biological samples to be linked with high-quality clinical and molecular data, supporting research aimed at improving understanding of diseases affecting African populations and people of African descent worldwide.

According to the firm, expanding biospecimen infrastructure within Africa will help ensure that research involving African populations is conducted under stronger scientific standards and ethical supervision.

The ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation authorises RevnaBio to develop and administer accredited proficiency testing programmes that allow laboratories to evaluate and improve their performance.

The company stated that this service would help address the shortage of locally delivered external quality assessment programmes in parts of West Africa.

By offering standardised benchmarking and quality monitoring, RevnaBio seeks to support laboratory networks and improve diagnostic reliability across healthcare systems in the region.
