Appointment of NIB MD is one of the best decisions taken in the interest of the bank – Palgrave Boakye Dankwa

The Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Palgrave Boakye Dankwa, has defended the appointed of the New Patriotic Party’s Candidate for the Manso Nkwanta Constituency, Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, as the Managing Director (MD) of the National Investment Bank.
Speaking on Zed FM, Boakye Dankwa described the appointment as one of the best decisions taken by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo–Addo, for the NIB under the prevailing circumstances
According to him, the President had considered the expertise of Mr Fokuo within the banking industry before making the appointment.
He disagreed with assertions that the appointment of an active politician to be the MD of NIB is another step towards the politicization of the State Owned Enterprises (SOE), saying, “The polity of this country is extremely partisan, but I am looking at the competence of this gentleman. Of course he’s a member of the ruling NPP government, but firstly he’s a Ghanaian. That is what we should look at. He’s a Ghanaian citizen, a man who has wide experience, and I’m in no doubt in my mind that he’ll be able to exercise his duties with the highest leve of professionalism.”
Palgrave insisted that Fokuo would be able to steer the affairs of the bank to a stable level before the peak of the campaign period comes along. This he believes will not relegate their major responsibilities as public servants to the background.
“I don’t think Tweneboah will have a challenge at all. This a man with a wide network, in London and Johannesburg, represented Barclays and ABSA in this country, so that’s the kind of person you need to be able to bring in the skills and the unique selling proposition that the has to enable the NIB become extremely stable and viable.”
He therefore swatted aside calls for the appointment of Fokuo to be revoked.
