Abdul Razak lifts lid on Otumfuo’s meeting amid Asante Kotoko’s resurgence

By Eustace Nii AKWEI, Accra

Former Asante Kotoko star Karim Abdul Razak has expressed his concerns about the recent meeting between owner Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the team’s players.

The meeting, held at the Manhyia Palace, was convened following Kotoko’s dismal performance, enduring a winless streak of seven games in the Ghana Premier League, with six losses during that period.

The poor results stirred confusion among stakeholders, with some fans even disrupting a training session to demand the removal of coach Prosper Ogum.

Asantehene called for the meeting to address these concerns, during which various issues were discussed, and he publicly voiced his support for Ogum to continue his role despite fan unrest.

However, Razak believes that the team should have handled their internal issues without involving Asantehene.

He suggested that visits to the Manhyia Palace should be reserved for celebratory occasions, reflecting on his own coaching experience when he only visited the palace after winning the league.

Razak clarified his stance, stating, “I didn’t say going there [Manhyia] is good or bad but when I was appointed I never went to Manhyia until I took the trophy there, and up till today, I haven’t been there.”

“They went to Manhyia and I have won, drawn, and won again. They should continue.

“When a coach asks you to do something, do it. All coaches are different but we are the same in discipline.

“No footballer is better than the coach.”

Following the meeting, Kotoko has demonstrated an improved performance, going undefeated in three games, securing two wins, and revitalizing their prospects for a top-four finish.

Kotoko’s next fixture is an away game against Berekum Chelsea.
