Yvonne Nelson announces plans for dumsor vigil
Actress Yvonne Nelson has taken a bold step to address the ongoing power crisis in Ghana by announcing plans to host a vigil protesting the erratic power supply, popularly known as “dumsor,” that has resurfaced across the country.
In a statement shared on her social media platforms, Nelson expressed her disappointment at the return of power outages, highlighting the detrimental impact it poses to the nation’s progress and development.
Citing the success of the previous DumsorMustStop Campaign, which she spearheaded alongside other prominent figures including Kofi Bentil of Imani Ghana, Prince David Osei, D Black, Van Vicker, Efya, Sarkodie, Barima Sidney, and DKB, Nelson emphasized the need for accountability and action from Ghanaian leaders.
While reaching out to Imani Ghana for support in organizing another vigil, Nelson stressed that the fight against dumsor transcends political affiliations and urged all Ghanaians to unite in addressing this pressing issue.
Although awaiting a response from Imani Ghana, Nelson called upon all Ghanaians, organizations, and legal professionals willing to protest to join her in the campaign for meaningful action to address the current power crisis.
Acknowledging that the campaign requires collective effort, Nelson appealed to lawyers, volunteers, and concerned citizens to contribute to the planning and execution of the vigil, emphasizing the importance of unity in advocating for a brighter future for Ghana.
The resurgence of power cuts, which have persisted for the past seven weeks, has prompted calls for the Ministry of Energy to publish an official timetable to keep consumers informed about power availability.
Despite assurances from government officials of a resolution soon, Nelson’s initiative underscores the urgency of addressing the power crisis and holding leaders accountable for ensuring reliable electricity supply for all Ghanaians.
