Kwabena Boateng wins Ejisu by-election with 55.79%

In a hotly contested by-election, Mr. Kwabena Boateng, a Legal Practitioner, emerged victorious, retaining the Ejisu parliamentary seat for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The election, marked by fierce competition among six contestants, saw Boateng securing 27,782 votes, constituting 55.79% of the valid votes cast.
His closest rival, Mr. Kwabena Owusu-Aduomi, a former MP for the constituency who ran as an independent candidate, garnered an impressive 21,534 votes, representing 43.34% of the total valid votes.
The other contenders were Esther Osei, Convention People’s Party-0.18%, Beatrice Boakye, Liberal Party of Ghana-0.30, Joseph Attakora, Independent-045%, and Joseph Agyemang Fredua, Independent-0.05% filing as independent candidates.
The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, the former Member of Parliament for the constituency, earlier in the year on March 7th.
The demise of Dr. Kumah sparked heightened political activity in the area, setting the stage for a competitive race to fill the vacant seat.
Boateng’s victory comes after a closely fought primary within the NPP, where he emerged as the party’s candidate amidst competition from nine aspirants.
Despite the constituency being a stronghold for the NPP and the withdrawal of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) from the race, Boateng faced significant competition from Owusu-Aduomi.
Owusu-Aduomi’s campaign capitalized on his previous tenure as an MP and his accomplishments as the former Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways.
His candidacy injected a new dynamic into the race, prompting intensified campaigning efforts from the NPP leadership to secure the seat.
Although early indications suggested a competitive race, Boateng’s victory became apparent before the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission (EC).
The Returning Officer, Mr. Mark Adu Poku, officially declared Boateng as the MP-elect after the collation of results from all 204 polling stations.
In his acceptance speech, Boateng expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the electoral process and pledged to work collaboratively with party structures to address any grievances and secure victory for the NPP in the upcoming December elections.
His victory marks a significant milestone for the NPP and sets the stage for continued representation and service to the people of Ejisu.
